Two young students who stole a jazzy sports car from the parking lot of a five-star hotel just for the thrill of driving it, have been sentenced to two months in jail. Interestingly, there were a million riyals in cash and expensive wrist watches lying on the rear seat of the car, which the adventure-seeking youngsters didn’t even notice. The defence lawyer pleaded in court that since the two with no past criminal record only wanted to try the car for fun they shouldn’t be sent to jail as that would expose them to the world of crime. He feared that they could take to crime once they spent time in the company of criminals in jail. The criminal court, however, sentenced them to two months in prison. The convicts who are students of a reputed college had seen the car in the parking lot of a five-star hotel and being highly impressed by its very look, wanted to take it for a test drive. The two went to the reception of the hotel and while one of them engaged the receptionist in conversation, the other managed to steal the keys. They went on a drive in the car and brought it back later, parking it in another slot. The two did not return the keys at the hotel’s reception. When the owner wanted to leave and asked for the car keys, they were found missing. After seeing the car parked in another parking slot, it didn’t take time for him to realise that the car had been taken away. He filed a complaint with the police which launched a manhunt for the culprits. The cops soon made a breakthrough and when they zeroed in on the two, they were found to be under the influence of alcohol, having consumed it at an expensive bar. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=November2009&file=Local_News200911166396.xml
