Hotels and supermarkets in Doha are launching a number of special packages and offers to attract customers who remained in Qatar during the summer holidays. Although the hotel industry is traditionally affected by the fact that people holiday during the summer, officials claimed that occupancy rates and food and beverage sales have been better this year than in previous summers. Still, the hotels have designed a number of packages to keep people coming through their doors over the next two months. The Ritz-Carlton Doha will be providing a special Ramadan Retreat package, with rooms starting at QR800, which also covers iftar for two as well as discounts on spa treatments and access to the pool and other facilities for family and friends. The hotel is also providing a ‘Sole Salvation’ offer at their spa, aimed at treating legs and feet that are “feeling tired and weathered from the hot summer sun”. The package is a 45 minute treatment for QR400, which can be booked alone or combined with another treatment. “This exhilarating and refreshing treatment will instantly pick you up and have you feeling better in no time,” said a hotel spokesperson. The Ritz-Carlton will have a number of offers during Ramadan, with iftar and suhour being hosted in the Al Wosail ballroom. But at the moment, other offers include a ‘Summer Tasting Menu’ at Porcini which will be available from today until August 9, as well as Friday brunch at the Lagoon and Friday Breakfast Feast at the Admiral’s club both of which will be available until Ramadan. The Grand Hyatt hotel has also organised a selection of packages to offer customers throughout the quieter summer months. Various offers include the Jaula Spa Suite Experience, the Super Summer package and the Grand Chalet package. The Spa suite gives guests the chance to enjoy two nights in a grand suite, with a daily hour- long spa treatment, whilst the Super Summer offer includes three nights in a seaview room for QR777 per night with daily buffet breakfast and use of the hotel’s facilities. And for packages starting at QR8,400 guests can opt for the Grand Chalet package for a week long stay. As well as the room packages, the Hyatt is also offering a number of promotions at its Jaula Spa. A discounted membership rate, and a ‘Summer Shimmer’ package are both being offered for summer guests. The Movenpick Tower and Suites has also launched a spa offer this summer, giving customers the chance to become members of the Bay View 26 Wellness Centre at a discounted rate of QR1,000 per person for a month, QR1,500 for two months and QR2,000 for three months. Other offers are available for couples and families, and the centre is also offering free access to all its spa facilities for customers who book any spa treatment. Whilst hotels are attempting to bring in custom during the quiet summer months, the country’s supermarkets are also hosting sales and other attractions aimed at bringing in shoppers. However, with the heat limiting outdoor activities, the malls continue to draw in a steady stream of customers, spending time with their family, enjoying some retail therapy, or even taking the opportunity to take part in some air-conditioned exercise by mall-walking. A number of activities have been organised in the various malls and permanent attractions such as ice-skating rinks, cinemas and bowling alleys are also proving popular. With theme park, Gondolonia now open at Villagio, children have a permanent collection of rides, games and other attractions to experience all year round, and this summer the recently opened theme park is providing welcome relief to families who have youngsters they need to keep occupied and happy. And with the Doha Summer Fair Park being organised by the Qatar Tourism Authority at the International Exhibition Centre, families also have a temporary attraction available for their summer needs. For people still keen to spend some of their summertime outside, Doha Golf Club is also offering a selection of discount offers, giving those that have remained in Qatar over the summer a chance to play both the academy and championship courses at special rates. For those willing to brave the heat, the club has also recently opened its bowling green which is open from 10am-7pm daily and is the first of its kind in the Middle East. http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=377567&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
