Site engineer held responsible for workers’ death The Upper Criminal Court has held a site engineer responsible for the death of two workers in an accident at a construction site. The incident took place earlier this year when several levels of scaffolding of a high-rise building under construction collapsed in Doha. Besides the two workers who were killed in the accident, several others, including the site engineer, were injured. The Capital Police, which investigated the incident, consulted the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). The technical report prepared by Ashghal concluded that the scaffolding was not erected in compliance with Qatari engineering standards and hence it considered the site engineer responsible for the accident. The court panel, headed by Judge Salah Sheriff, fined the engineer QR1,000 and ordered him to pay, in collaboration with the contracting company, QR300,000 as blood money to the families of the two workers. The Pen
