The management of the Barwa Village complex has announced a plan to host a two-month shopping festival there. Senior officials of Barwa Real Estate Company and Barwa Village said they would host a ‘Shop, Celebrate and Win’ shopping festival at the village for two months starting on March 22. This is the first shopping festival ever at the two-year-old complex, covering an area of 400,000 square metres, with a built up space of 186,000 square metres. The festival, spread over eight weeks, would offer automobiles, mobile phones, and gift vouchers as prizes to customers making a minimum purchase of QR50 from any outlet located in the complex. They will receive coupons that would entitle them to take part in the draws to be held once every 20 days during the festival. In the three draws, a Toyota Prado, Toyota FJ Cruiser, 20 iPads, 20 Blackberry mobile phones, and 20 LCDs will be given away. “Hopefully, this will attract a large number of visitors during the festival period,” said Barwa Village acting general manager Khalifa Salman al-Mohannadi. Al-Mohannadi said the festival also covered those establishments retailing construction materials. Coupons issued at such outlets would also be included in the draw. “This festival is certain to give adequate visibility to such outlets as well,” he said. Apart from the draw, the organisers said they have lined up a series of events to attract visitors from all over Qatar. “Among the attractions would be a dedicated entertainment zone for kids and families where they would be treated to live entertainment throughout the festival, in particular during the weekends,” said al-Mohannadi. He added that even though the complex would welcome everyone, including bachelors, the focus would be on families and children. The festival is held in association with Network Advertising and Events, a local firm that has conducted many similar events across the region. Communications Director of Barwa Real Estate Company Hamad Rashid al-Kuwari said their company has a responsibility to the outlet owners in the complex. There are more than 900 commercial establishments. The official affirmed that their company would not spare any effort to promote the Village which is the largest commercial complex in the country. “We will promote the Barwa Village in line with the massive developments taking place in Qatar under the patronage of HH The Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH The Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani,” said al-Kuwari. The organisers also formally launched the festival website, www.bsf.qa at the meeting. The site will be a platform for customers to get real time updates on the event. Residents will also get updates through social platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Managing Director of Network Advertising & Events Shahrawi Khater said his company has made some remarkable initiatives to meet the expectations of potential visitors to the festival. He hoped his company’s experience in handling projects like Qatar Marine Festival and City Center Shopping Festival would give the firm an added advantage in drawing public attention to the festival. At the press conference, Property manager at Barwa Village Abdullah al-Kuwari claimed more than 95 % of the 918 retail spaces at the village have been rented out. The official also added that residential occupancy is almost 99% and more than a hundred people are on the waiting list. There are 458 residential units in the Village. This includes 96 studio apartments, 262 one-room apartments, and 100 two-bed room apartments. Barwa Village Sales and leasing manager Mohamed al-Hamadi also spoke. Gulf Times
