Part of the much-famed Kaharba Street would miss the hustle and bustle this Ramadan as some shop owners have been served demolition notices and have been asked to vacate the premises by month-end. Although the demolitions were announced earlier as part of a massive city development project, they were not expected before Ramadan. But the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has issued notices to some of the shops asking them to vacate so the buildings could face the bulldozers. Shop owners who have been there for decades say they need time at least until after Ramadan to vacate the buildings. “We need at least two months to move our businesses. There are machineries and equipment to be shifted. It can’t be done on such a short notice,” said Abdul Latif al Naddaf who runs one of the shops which has been served the notice. He said he wanted the authorities concerned to postpone the demolition process after Ramadan so they have enough time to move. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/54686-shop-owners-urge-for-more-time-to-vacate-kaharba-st.html
