HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani, wife of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, with other VIP guests at the launch of the “My Country’s Bird” project at the Opera House at Katara Cultural Village, on Thursday evening. Sheikha Jawaher is the chief patron of the Hima Fund which aims at conservation of birds and their habitats in the Middle East. Also seen in the picture is Qatar’s leading environmental campaigner Dr Saif al- Hajri, the president of Friends of Environment Centre (FEC). The children of Markhiya Independent Primary School presented a cultural show at the launch ceremony. Their performances highlighted the theme of conserving endangered bird species in the region. There was also an audio-visual presentation. The ceremony featured a violin recital by members of the Qatar Music Academy. Dr al-Hajri spoke on initiatives to spread awareness on conservation of birds. He lauded the establishment of the million-dollar Hima Fund.
