A highway dedicated to heavy vehicles is one of expressway and sewage projects Public Works Authority (PWA) has lined up as part of a nation-wide road network development programme expected to be completed over the next five to seven years. On Sunday, Ashghal (PWA) is to ink contracts to launch seven major expressway, road development and repair and sewage projects worth QR45bn. The expressway projects involve 900km of road length, subways, flyovers and interchanges, as part of the road infrastructure scheme connecting places in Doha and other parts of the country. The projects involve building 240 major interchanges, from conventional traffic lights to multi-level interchanges with tunnels and flyovers. The expressway and road projects also involve development and repair of some major roads. As for the sewage plan, 221 projects are to be executed over the next five to seven years at a cost of QR50bn. Some would cost up to QR200m, while others between QR200m and QR900m and still others — the major ones — QR900m and more. Local companies would likely be awarded 163 of the 221 projects and their collective value would be QR11.5bn. Joint venture companies (foreign companies in partnership with local entities) stand to get a lion’s share of these projects. The value of these projects (58) is estimated at QR41.7bn. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/news/qatar/267761/seven-expressways-in-qr45bn-road-projects
