Strong dusty winds will lash Qatar for the next 24 hours, the weather office said. According to weather office sources, Qatar’s northern areas experienced strong winds of 28-30 knots. Al Khor recorded winds of 39 knots around noon. Ras Laffan and Shamal also experienced heavy winds in the past 24 hours. “The speciality of the ongoing winds is that its speed is almost the same in both inshore and offshore,” said a forecaster. It is observed that the wind speed inshore is slightly more than what is usually experienced offshore, the official added. The Met office also said the sandstorm will reduce visibility to about 2 to 4km. Visibility will be very poor at high seas, the forecaster said. Fishermen have been advised to stay ashore in the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, the Security and Patrols Department in Shamal distributed more than 1,000 dust masks to motorists in the area yesterday. They also cautioned motorists against driving at high speeds during the dusty conditions. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=303181&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
