Doha March 15:The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the partial opening of the Salwa Road underpass to traffic from Friday, March 15. The tunnel will be opened from Al Asiri Intersection going towards Industrial Area. This tunnel will allow motorists to move between the Industrial Area and Faleh Bin Nasser intersection without making any stop at signals. In addition, the opening of this tunnel is a prelude to another phase that will improve traffic flow on the level-of-surface roads and subsidiary roads on both sides of the tunnel. The tunnel from the opposite direction will be opened partially on March 29. To achieve smooth flow of traffic, two lanes of the four will be operating on either end of the tunnel. The project includes the construction of a seven-km long, twoway road, while the main line will have eight lanes in each direction with continuous service roads, as well as four two-level interchanges. Salwa Road is part of Ashghal’s Expressway Programme, which is a nationwide road infrastructure programme that will improve tarffic across Qatar. With ten projects under construction, the programme will deliver more than 30 major road projects across Qatar including new and upgraded modern freeways, expressways and arterial roads.
