DOHA: Reach Out To Asia (Rota) has honoured some 70 volunteers and partners who actively took part to its Ramadan 2011 campaign during a Reflection Event last evening at the Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre. Now on its fifth year, the Rota Ramadan campaign this year carries a theme “Rota Reaches Out To All Children” which volunteers and partner organisations took their time out to participate a variety of significant activities especially focusing the benefit of children during the Holy Month celebration. Rota Board member Sheikha Aisha Al Thani and Rota Director Essa Al Mannai both personally handed the gifts of appreciation to the different partners including Qatar First Investment Bank, Al Meera, The One and Dhreima for their support to make the Ramadan campaign a big success. Al Mannai in his speech has particularly cited this year’s partners for their all out support which he said is a “show of generosity and altruism that captures the essence and spirit of Ramadan.” Saying it was an overwhelming success, Sheika Aisha has cited three important components of the campaign outcome: The generosity of Rota’s partners and sponsors, the countless hours of work that volunteers from both Rota ’s youth groups and partners put into the activities and the role of media in spreading out the good news. “Volunteerism in itself is the greatest act of selflessness that we can manifest,” Sheikha Aisha pointed out in her speech. She also underscored the role of media for spreading the message of Ramadan to Qatar and the world. “You have shown the world that Qatar is truly a giving, charitable country, built on the foundations of equality and justice for all,” Sheikah Aisha said. The month-long Rota campaign has been done with different events and activities in which partners have actively participated in their respective voluntary roles. A week before the Ramadan, Rota and Al Meera teamed up to distribute basic food items to the needy families in Qatar while Al Meera offered free food to Rota volunteers. The One, Qatar’s leading furniture chain, supported a house renovation for an underprivileged Qatari family by providing brand new furniture while its staff volunteers help in fixing the old ones in the house. QFIB for their part, sponsored another house renovation apart from hosting an Iftar for the residents of Qatar Foundation for the Elderly. Prior to the start of the Ramadan, the bank distributed food vouchers to the senior citizens. Dhreima was not only beneficiary to the Rota campaign since they also hosted an Iftar to the sponsors and a Garangaou celebration to the children. the peninsula
