The Traffic Department has launched the Phase IV of its countrywide road safety awareness campaign with the support of Qtel as the main sponsor, says a report published in the local Arabic daily Arrayah. As many as 700 new warning signs are to be fixed on all the main traffic signals, intersections and roundabouts. Speaking on the occasion Qtel’s CEO, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, said that Qtel was committed to its duty towards the society at large and to help in making all the plans for national urban development a success. “We are specially concerned about safety on the roads in the country because it has much to do with safeguarding precious human lives,” he said. The Director of the Traffic Department Brig. Mohamed Saad al-Kharji thanked the Qtel for its continuous support and called upon all the official and unofficial bodies in the country to co-operate in this campaign and help in making it a success. He added : “Our main focus is creating an awareness among the youth on the need to abide by traffic rules and prove to be disciplined and road conscious whenever they are driving their vehicles”. The occasion was also addressed by the CEO of the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ), George Nusrah.
