The new BlackBerry Torch features a large touch screen and optical trackpad with a 35 key full QWERTY backlit slide-out keyboard. It supports high-speed 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) networks around the world, includes the latest generation in Wi-Fi® (b/g/n) connectivity and built-in GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging. Its 5 MP camera takes exceptional pictures with continuous auto focus, image stabilization, scene modes and zoom, as well as video recording. It also comes with a combined 8 GB of media storage out-of-the-box, including a microSD/SDHD memory card slot that can bring the total storage memory to 32 GB for customers that want more.
Mohammed Al-Mefleh, Director of Product Management, RIM Middle East said: “The new BlackBerry Torch is our first combination QWERTY and touch-screen smartphone, catering not only to our traditional enterprise users but also to consumers who like the convenience of a touch screen.”
The launch session included a brief introduction to RIM’s new operating system, BlackBerry® 6. BlackBerry 6 features a redesigned interface that seamlessly works with a touch screen and trackpad, expanded messaging capabilities that simplify managing social media and RSS feeds, an advanced multimedia experience that rivals the best in the industry, a convenient new Universal Search tool, and a new and efficient WebKit-based browser that renders web pages quickly and beautifully for a great browsing experience.
Al-Mefleh concluded: “The BlackBerry 6 user interface provides a range of multimedia and social networking tools to help users stay in touch with their networks and keep up with hectic lifestyles and work schedules. Let’s face it – work and play increasingly overlap in today’s society. At RIM we recognize this and have come up with a great solution to both needs in the BlackBerry Torch.”
