Local telecom companies have assured customers that they will be compensated for the disruption of BlackBerry services even as Research In Motion (RIM) said that backlog of emails to Europe from the Asia and the Americas caused the outages. A Qtel Tweet said last evening that compensation will be offered to BlackBerry customers which will be determined fairly based on the length of interruption. Vodafone said in a Facebook post that customers will be provided appropriate compensation shortly and will issue further announcement soon. “It is a backlog issue,” RIM software vice president David Yach told a press conference. “Clearly we have a backlog in Europe... As you can imagine, with the global reach of BlackBerry and people using it to contact others around the world, there’s a lot of messages to Europe from Asia and the Americas,” he said. “Over time that backlog has built up and affected our other systems.” The glitches that impaired messaging, emails and browsing in Europe, the Middle East and Africa spread to India and South America and now to Canada and US. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/168980-qtel-vodafone-to-compensate-for-blackberry-outage.html
