Qtel has donated QR1mn to the Zakat Fund as part of its corporate social responsibility mission. Half of the donation is expected to go towards promoting the fund’s student-sponsorship project, which aims to provide educational opportunities for high-potential young scholars across Qatar. The donation was made possible with the company’s ongoing series of auctions of Easy to Remember (ETR) cellphone number, an official said. Qtel general services and group human resources executive director Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani said: “The Zakat Fund’s work in supporting educational opportunities across Qatar is very important for the future of the nation, and Qtel is pleased and proud to make this contribution.” The company has recently prioritised its CSR strategy into five pillars, under the core message ‘For Qatar, Hand in Hand’, with education, healthcare, environmental issues, social welfare initiative, and sports as key areas of activity. For education, Qtel is a major supporter of original research within Qatar, financially enabling the creation of a wireless communication research laboratory in the Education City in partnership with local universities, the official said. “We manage our charitable initiatives with the same seriousness of purpose as we manage our budgets, and we continually look to work with the leading organisations to ensure that our efforts have the maximum impact,” Sheikh Saud added. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=286399&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
