Qatar win second gold in Kobe

Qatar’s Mutaz Essa Barshim clearing the bar to make the new championship record of 2.35m during the men’s high jump competition in the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, yesterday. Barshim won the competition to take Qatar’s second gold in Kobe. On Friday Abubaker Ali Kamal won the first gold for Qatar after coming first in the 3,000m men’s steeplechase with a timing of 8:30.23. Young Essa Barshim, who is the former gold medallist of the Asian Games in 2010 and the World Junior Championship in the same year, said he was now looking forward to the World Championships in Daegu, Korea, in August. “I really want to win the gold medal there. I will rewrite history,” he said.
