Qatar’s Jaafer created history by winning the Dubai Kahayla Classic during the Dubai World Cup horse racing at the Meydan Racecourse yesterday. Jockey Adrie de Vries rode Jaafer, trained by Julian Smart, to victory in this race worth of $250,000. There were 12 horses in the fray for this race open to Group I Purebred Arabians. It is for the first time that a horse from Qatar has won this race. Jaafer belongs to Al Shahania Stud. The horse is owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani. Jaafer burst to the front in the final two hundred metres of the 2,000-metre contest to beat the highly regarded No Risk Al Maury by five lengths. “It is just amazing to win this race. I don’t think this race has ever been won by Qatar,” said Smart. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=March2010&file=Local_News2010032822828.xml
