The Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has signed cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Health and Population in Yemen and the Yemeni Charity Medical Association to construct and operate Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani centre for kidney dialysis in Al Hota, Lahj province in Yemen. The agreement was signed during the visit of QRC delegation headed by Saleh Al Mohannadi, Secretary General of QRC, to Yemen this month. The Ministry of Health allocated 1,000 square meters of the total area of Ibn Khaldun hospital in Lahj province where the centre will be built. The ministry will provide all the facilities for the centre. “The Ministry of Health and the Yemeni people would like to express their gratitude to Qatar and Qatar Red Crescent for the support and assistance they provide their brothers and sisters in Yemen with and the generous and continuous support for the Yemeni health sector,” said Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Qassem Al Ansi. He also noted that this project will play a major role in saving many cases of kidney failure, particularly as many of the cases had and still have to travel to Aden for cure. Al Mohannadi stressed that this project is considered a significant humanitarian medical project. “We have been careful from the beginning to implement the project based on modern scientific methods. In addition, we will make sure that the project is implemented successfully through close monitoring during implementation where QRC appointed Dr Fouad Hassan to be the project manager who will follow all stages of implementation in coordination and cooperation with the Yemeni Charity Medical Association, the body that will oversee the implementation,” he said. He also noted that QRC will carry out the work on the operation of the centre five years. Al Mohannadi also met with Qatari Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed bin Hamad Al Fuhaid Al Hajri who expressed admiration of the project. Al Hajri said the Embassy of Qatar in Yemen is ready to provide all the facilities that will help humanitarian associations in Qatar on the implementation of humanitarian projects in Yemen.
