Qatar, Cyprus sign accords

HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Cyprus President Demetris Christofias held a round of official talks yesterday at the Emiri Diwan. The talks were attended by Minister of Economy and Finance HE Yousef Hussein Kamal, Emiri Diwan Chief HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Saud al-Thani, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, who is also head of the accompanying honorary mission, Minister of State for International Co-operation HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, Director of the Emir’s office HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Emir’s Secretary for Follow-up Affairs HE Saad bin Mohamed al-Rumaihi, Director of the European and American Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry Adel Ali al-Khal and Qatar’s Ambassador to Cyprus Mubarak Abdurrahman al-Nasr. Attending on the Cypriot side were Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou, Finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis, Minister of Industry and Commerce Antonis Paschalades, government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou and Ambassador to Qatar Panikos Kiriako. Talks during the meeting dealt with relations of co-operation and ways of bolstering them in all fields besides several key regional and global matters of concern to both sides. Following the talks, HH the Emir and President Christofias attended the signing of a protocol on consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries and an agreement on the cancellation of visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Qatar Olympic Committee (QNOC) and the Cyprus National Olympic Committee (NOC). The agreements were signed for Qatar by Minister of State for International Co-operation al-Attiyah and for Cyprus by Foreign Minister Kyprianou and the president of the NOC.
