Qatar announces 50 million support humanitarian response efforts sudan

H.E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs announced the State of Qatar's pledge of fifty million US dollars to support the efforts of the Humanitarian Response Plan in Sudan and the Regional Plan for Refugees, based on Qatar's brotherly responsibility and its moral and humanitarian duty towards the brothers in Sudan, and in continuation of its continuous humanitarian and development efforts in brotherly Sudan.

This came in the speech of the State of Qatar, delivered by His Excellency via video conferencing, today, during its co-chairing of the "Sudan Pledging Conference: The Ministerial Event to Announce Pledging to Support Humanitarian Response in Sudan and the Region", with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Republic of Germany, the United Nations, represented by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the European Union, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, with the participation of His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom.

H.E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani reiterated that the State of Qatar will spare no effort to stand by the brotherly Sudanese people until they overcome this crisis, and stressed that the firm and firm position of the State of Qatar is to support the unity, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of brotherly Sudan, reject any form of interference in its internal affairs, and fully respect the choices of its people for freedom, peace, justice and prosperity.

He said: "Our moral and humanitarian commitment requires us all to stand in solidarity with the brotherly Sudanese people in facing the repercussions and challenges of the humanitarian crisis they face. I note here that the State of Qatar has always stood with its brothers in Sudan, and its humanitarian and development efforts have continued, in addition to its efforts related to supporting stability and peace in Sudan, where the Doha Agreement for Darfur Peace signed in 2011 was at the forefront of these efforts.

H.E the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs added that since the outbreak of the current armed conflict and the consequent humanitarian crisis, the State of Qatar has taken the initiative to stand with the Sudanese brothers, through an air bridge, to deliver about 318 tons of aid until the date of the last plane, including food, medicine and clothing, and its cost amounted to more than $ 4 million, in addition to the evacuation of 1784 people, through the efforts of a number of institutions in the State of Qatar, such as: The Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Health, the Qatar Fund for Development, Qatar Charity, and the Qatar Red Crescent, His Excellency also thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross for its efforts, appreciating the partnership with it in this important file.

His Excellency pointed out that the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan needs an urgent response and adequate funding, to fill the funding gap in the Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan and the Regional Refugee Plan, so it is necessary to provide sufficient pledges and donations, and at the same time fulfill them as soon as possible, in order to confront the crisis and contain it completely, so that it does not spread to Sudan's neighboring countries.

H.E the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, international partners and United Nations agencies for their efforts to respond to the worsening humanitarian crisis in brotherly Sudan, and expressed the State of Qatar's pride in co-sponsoring this conference.
