Qatar a great place: US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has described Qatar as a great place and Al Udeid Air Force Base an incredible base. The comments came from Donald Trump while taking part in a Christmas Day video teleconference with members of the US military, reported Gulf Times.

Trump was interacting with Brigadier General Jason R Armagost, Commander of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, US Air Force, based in Al Udeid. Earlier, replying to Trump’s queries, Brigadier General Armagost said Qatar was a fantastic host. As he said:

“They are helping us to improve our infrastructure and make this kind of a crown jewel of a base.
“They are fantastic hosts, they are great to us, it is a fascinating place to work and operate from,” the US General stated.

Moreover, he mentioned that 7,000 US service personnel are working “24x7, 365, on providing global strike intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, air lift and cargo and tanker operations including defence of space controls well across the entire Centcom.

Brigadier General Armagost said Al Udeid is one of the strategic locations that takes part in operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria every day. “We also jointly operate with soldiers, sailors, marines and 28 coalition partners at the base,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that Al Udeid Air (also known as Abu Nakhlah Airport) is a military base situated in the southwest of Doha, Qatar. It houses Qatari Air Force, U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force, and other Gulf War Coalition personnel and assets. Qatar built this base at the cost of more than $1 billion in 1996.

Qatar welcomes the UN Security Council resolution No. 2451 on Yemen, calling for a ceasefire and for activating the agreements and commitments reached in the Stockholm negotiations.

A press release published by Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this decision would alleviate the unprecedented human tragedy of the brotherly Yemeni people, if all parties are committed to it.

Qatar calls on all parties of the conflict in Yemen to abide by international law and to enable international organizations to play their role. It also called on the parties of the conflict to assume their responsibility towards civilians by protecting them and to facilitate the means of protection and minimum living rights.

The State of Qatar also thanks the United Kingdom for its effective role in the issuance of this important resolution, and renewed the position of the State of Qatar calling for a political settlement in Yemen as days proved that the military decision was not possible and that the continuation of the military option will only bring more woes and devastation to the brotherly Yemen and its people.
