A number of employees at the Qatar Poultry Company have been suspended pending an inquiry after being accused of selling expired products and violating health standards. Employees of the company including labourers and some administrative officials are under investigation after it was found that the poultry being sold was labelled with false expiry dates. The inquiry was launched after some of the company’s products being sold at a mall in Doha were found to have a putrid smell, even though the expiry dates on the label had not passed. Public prosecution oifficials reached the company’s farm, where poultry is slaughtered, only to discover the violations in which a group of workers was involved. They were trying to cash in on the high poultry prices. Poultry is usually given a maximum of 5-day consumption period, but the company employees extended the expiry date an extra 3 to 4 days. The company’s products have been pulled from some shops and supermarkets. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=August2009&file=Local_News2009082633150.xml
