Ooredoo Doubles 4G Coverage
Ooredoo Now Has Around 200 4G Sites Across the Country and will Extend to Al Wakra, Dukhan and Al Khor by Ramadan
Ooredoo has reached a major milestone in the rollout of 4G across the country, doubling the number of base sites since the launch, with a total of around 200 4G sites now live across the country. Customers have eagerly signed up for the 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network, the country’s fastest-ever mobile broadband network. Already, Ooredoo has seen record demand from customers accessing 4G at the Sealine Beach Resort, reflecting the increasing use of My-Fi devices outdoors. As part of upgrading the 4G coverage, Ooredoo has launched an engaging new campaign led by Nasser Al Attiyah – the Qatari Olympic medallist, World Rally winner, and Ooredoo brand ambassador. The campaign, which will be broadcast across the country and on social media, demonstrates Al Attiyah as an icon and symbol of Qatar’s achievement and speed. Providing 4G at major sporting events, in May 2013, Ooredoo installed 4G at the Lusail International Circuit for the Qatar International Road Racing Championship. Fans have used 4G to share real-time photos and videos of the races on social media. With its on-going expansion programme, Ooredoo now has around 200 4G sites in operation, and is increasing the total number of sites week-by-week. Ooredoo is rolling-out 4G in phases, covering Al Wakra, Al Khor and Dukhan by the Holy Month of Ramadan, followed by Umm Said. 4G provides connection speeds “at the speed of life” – or three-to-six times faster than the 3G network. Using 4G-enabled devices, customers can easily stream HD video and music, transfer large files and access multimedia-rich websites from their mobile devices. To access 4G, customers need to have 4G-enabled devices that are compatible with 800 MHz and 2,600 MHz frequencies (Band 7 and 20). Ooredoo has seen strong sales of its 4G My-Fi Device and 4G USB Modem at Ooredoo Shops and online eShop at www.ooreodo.qa/eshop. To access Ooredoo 4G on these devices, customers need to subscribe to the Shahry Unlimited Mobile Broadband Plan, and can then unlock the 4G service with the 4G Key. Plans are in place to launch a new range of Data Plans and 4G services in the near future. For more information on Ooredoo 4G, customers can visit the 4G page on the Ooredoo website at http://www.ooredoo.qa/en/4G or stop by any Ooredoo shop. - ILQ News -
