According to a report by The Peninsula, violations caught on radars using mobile phones while driving will not be eligible for discounts.
This is confirmed by Captain Mohammed Rabiah Al Kuwari, an officer in the Violations Department of the General Traffic Department, in an interview with Qatar Radio. He further explains that the new radar systems simultaneously detect three violations: speeding, failure to use a seatbelt, and mobile phone usage.
The fine for failure to use a seatbelt is QR 500, and are eligible for a discount if settled within 30 days. Violations for mobile phone usage are also QR 500 but do not qualify for a discount.
Captain Mohammed Rabiah Al Kuwari stresses that mobile phone usage and the use of seat belts significantly impact traffic safety, disclosing that 50-60% of traffic accidents can be associated to these two violations.
Violators can address the violations detected through Metrash2 or the Ministry of Interior's website. A response will be provided via Metrash2 within 7 days and the violation will be reviewed by the relevant authorities.
