There are some Qatari youth who spend as much as 14 to 15 hours surfing the Internet daily, causing concern to their parents, says a national who has a social website to interact with fellow citizens. Yusuf Al Amri said designing a website is so easy and it can be done without any monitoring by the authorities concerned. He said launching a website is also not an expensive affair so anyone willing to have a site can go for it. Salah Al Saadi, director of summer activities at a prominent youth centre, said the Internet is one of the major attracting of today’s youth. On average, local youth spend something like three to four hours a day surfing the Internet, he said. “The problem here is that youth do not have avenues of entertainment or using their leisure time in a productive manner.” Not many social and cultural activities take place here, so the youths have more leisure time and they prefer to spend it sitting on the computer. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=July2009&file=Local_News2009072814341.xml
