The Youth Company will launch My Qatar, the first youth forum on environment and sustainability in the country, tomorrow at Hilton Hotel.
The forum will underline the importance of environmental development as one of the four major pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030, attracting committed youth who plan to make a difference in protecting and conserving the environment.
During two-day forum, over 80 high school and university students will have chance to get information about environment issues in Qatar, programs on sustainability, develop their own projects and initiatives and present them to individuals, organizations and policy makers, who can support their implementation.
The event will feature a presentation about Qatar’s Commitment to Sustainable Development, QNV2030 and NDS 2011–2016 Environment Sector Strategy, to be delivered by the General Secretariat for Development Planning, and an informative session on Air Quality by Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI).
Abdulrahman Sajid, Youth Leader at The Youth Company, will discuss Environment and Third World Countries while Peter Moore, Entrepreneurial Mentor at College of the North Atlantic Qatar will facilitate a workshop on effective project planning and management
Participants will be divided into committees and come up with long-term and successful collaborative projects, which aim to address environment and sustainability issues in Qatar.
“Being a member of United Nations Global Compact, we are always trying to take on sustainable approach in our daily operations. Last year, we also organized Earth Hour Qatar event and awareness campaign to motivate the public to think green. With My Qatar forum to be concluded on the June 5, which is the World Environment Day, we aim to give a push to four substantial projects to be implemented over the span of one year, and support the youth in taking care of environment in our country,” said Aya Abu Issa, Chief Executive Director of The Youth Company
