The Upper Criminal Court has given a resident a one-year suspended sentence and immediate deportation for stealing shoes from a mosque. According to the charge-sheet, the man, in his 50s, had stolen shoes from a mosque located in Al Rayyan while people were praying. However, to his misfortune, a man who had arrived late for the prayers noticed the thief sitting at the gate of the mosque, strategically near the shoes. When the man finished with his prayers and came out for his shoes, he found them missing. Other worshippers also emerged to find they had to return to their homes barefooted. The immediate suspect was the man who had been sitting outside during the prayers. After a brief and spirited chase, he was found slinking away carrying a sack full of shoes.
