The Ministry of Municipality issued a statement via Twitter on 28 February 2023 that a video that went viral on social media showing a desert locust outbreak is false.

As per the ministry, the video is old and dates back to an incident that occurred in 2019.
Based on the video, the Department of Agricultural Affairs alerted the Desert Locust Control Authority in the Central Region FAO to investigate the situation.
The authority had confirmed that there was no such outbreak, and the situation is stable in the region.
The ministry also confirmed that the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality is arranging to send technical teams to monitor and survey desert locusts in all the regions of Qatar.
