The second edition of the “Made in Qatar” exhibition will be held in early January 2011, the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) announced yesterday. QCCI chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani told reporters that the exhibition would include Qatari products of excellence. “The exhibition aims to market these high quality industrial products and encourage businessmen to engage more in small and medium industries,” he said. Sheikh Khalifa said the Chamber was seeking to organise similar exhibitions in other Gulf or other Arab countries. “We are studying the proposal,” he said, adding “we have written to companies asking for details. Based on the feedback, we will decide on the destination country.” He said “this will play a major role in boosting Qatari exports.” QCCI deputy chairman Mohamed bin Tawar al-Kuwari said “around 70% of the companies which have confirmed their participation in the exhibition are petroleum industries.” He said the number of participants this year is more and includes entities under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Social Development Centre which will exhibit ‘home-made’ products. “A total of 177 major, medium and small companies have already applied for participation, and the number is expected to grow in the coming days,” he added. Al-Kuwari said the exhibition would also feature lectures and seminars in order to discuss ways of supporting industries and entrepreneurs, as well as the impediments facing them. http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=383067&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
