The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced closure of one lane in each direction of Al Shamal Road (near the Al Rayyan interchange) from midnight on Thursday.
In a statement on Tuesday, the authority said the closure, which extends to about 300m and is scheduled to last three months, will not affect traffic as an alternative lane will be provided in each direction. This will be done to maintain the same number of lanes - three - as the existing road.
The closure is being carried out to facilitate the construction of a bridge that will link Al Rayyan Road with Al Shamal Road. It will help reduce traffic congestion in the Rayyan area, the statement notes.
The diversion work has already started and the new road layout will be opened to motorists on Friday morning for northbound traffic and Saturday morning for southbound traffic.
Ashghal has requested all road users to abide by speed limits and follow road signs to ensure their safety.
