Japanese book donation to Qatar National Library
H.E. Mr. Kenjiro Monji, Ambassador of Japan met this morning with Mr. Abdulla Nasser Al-Ansari, Director of the Department of Public Libraries and donated 48 Japan-related books in collaboration with the Japan Foundation. The Embassy of Japan began handing over Japan-related books donated by the Japan Foundation to Qatar National Library in 1987 under its annual library support program, which continued till 2004. The total number of books donated by the Embassy to Qatar National Library now reaches 843. The vast collection of books on Japan at the National Library has become a very useful resource for providing readers a wide range of information on various aspects of Japanese life including history, economy, literature, Social Science, tradition, art & culture and so on. Ambassador Monji and Mr. Al-Ansari also had a brief discussion on Japan’s participation in this year’s Doha International Book Fair to which Japan has been invited as a guest of honour in light of the 40th year of Japan Qatar diplomatic relations. Ambassasor Monji explained that Japan intends to introduce a wide range of Japanese culture including Japanese pop culture such as Manga, Anime and Fashion.. Qatar is going to witness a variety of Japanese cultural events this year under “Qatar Japan 2012” project launched by the Qatar Museums Authority and the Embassy of Japan in commemoration with the 40th anniversary of their relations. • The next event is a Japanese speech contest which will be held on June 16 at Museum of Islamic Art in which many young students will demonstrate their skills of speaking Japanese. - ILQ news -
