The recent hike in salaries for Qatari government employees was highly appreciated at the Friday sermons, the Arrayah Arabic daily reported. Dr Ali Muhiddin al-Qurah praised the decision of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to increase the salaries of Qatari government employees by 60-120%. Dr Al-Qurah said money can play a great role in building a healthy society if properly used. He also said the increase was a good deed that could contribute in spreading welfare and prosperity for all through increasing production and creating more job opportunities. He advised young people to invest the money wisely and not to go for unnecessary debts. He said money was a trust from God that should not be squandered and warned them against taking too many loans that would spoil their lives and exhaust their resources. In the meantime, he exhorted traders and businessmen not to exploit people and raise the prices of commodities. He also asked the state to intervene and enforce consumer protection laws and control prices so the increase would achieve its target - the welfare of Qatari citizens. Gulf Times
