A senior Mowasalat official has advised passengers of Karwa taxis not to pay the taxi fare if the driver failed to put on the meter during the trip and refused to issue a ticket. Mowasalat chairman Jassim Saif Al Sulaiti was responding to a query from The Peninsula yesterday about complaints that some Karwa drivers refuse to issue tickets to the passengers, to make some extra bucks at the cost of the company. " We have been requesting the public to be vigilant about such drivers. Public awareness is the best away to curb malpractices. Always insist for a ticket when you are travelling in a bus or taxi. Don't pay the fare if the taxi driver fails to put on the meter,"said Al Sulaiti. He said, the company will soon introduce taxis equipped with state-of-the-art meters that will be switched on automatically after the passenger gets into the vehicle. The meters come with special sensors that make this possible, he added. The company has also deployed inspectors to catch the erring drivers, who would conduct surprise raids in buses and taxis.
