A troupe of Spanish flamenco dancers recently entertained visitors at the La Croisette, the boardwalk in Porto Arabia at The Pearl-Qatar. The performance, featuring six dancers from ‘Ballet Carmen Cantero’, showcased Spain’s alluring national dance, along with a live Flamenco band. Ballet Carmen Cantero was created in 1997 in an effort to keep alive the Spanish customs, traditions and different expressions found throughout the country. A feature dancer of Ballet Carmen Cantero explained: “In Ballet Carmen Cantero we have given ‘Spanish dance’ a uniqueness by adding our own interpretations to various Flamenco styles.” “We love the so-called ‘Folklore’ of Flamenco, and allow certain indulgences in our technique, such as the ‘Escuela Bolera’ — the elegance technique, which adds greater expression through the movement of arms and castanets. This allows us to fully explore the beauty of Spanish dance and express our innermost feelings and expression.” The earliest roots of Flamenco art are shrouded in mystery. However, its artistic expression can be traced back to Andalusia popular folklore. It is known that the art form has undergone great change over the years, adopting various cultural influences which made their mark in Southern Spain during different historical periods, over many centuries. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/133393-flamenco-dancers-perform-at-porto-arabia.html
