Five Filipinos, including the wives of two Filipino chefs stuck in the Trident-Oberoi hotel in Mumbai have been safely evacuated, a report from the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday. Some 174 Filipino travellers, however, are still stranded in Bangkok, Thailand, as tension continues at the two Bangkok airports — the Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang — which were closed down as a result of protests against the Thai government. Esteban Conejos Jr, DFA undersecretary for migrant affairs, confirmed that all five Filipino nationals who were affected by the Mumbai terror attacks were “safe and out of harm’s way”. A Filipino businessman who was slightly hurt during the siege had already been flown back home, officials of the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi reported. The officials said the wives, who were visiting their husbands and staying in the hotel when the terrorists struck, were able to safely leave the Trident-Oberoi since they were not hostages. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=November2008&file=Local_News20081129709.xml
