Firms honoured for excellence in Qatarisation

HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada yesterday honoured companies at the third Annual Qatarisation Awards ceremony held as part of the 11th Annual Qatarisation Review Meeting. The awards recognise companies who have consistently exhibited Qatarisation excellence over the previous year. Two types of awards are presented: a crystal for the three top performing companies and a certificate for the three companies who have advanced the most during the year. The 2010 recipients are: Qatar Shell GTL (Qatarisation Crystal Award) and Oryx GTL (Certificate) for Supporting Qatarisation; Qatargas (Qatarisation Crystal Award) and Qapco (Certificate) was awarded for Support for Training and Development; and Qapco (Qatarisation Crystal Award) and Oxy Occidental Petroleum of Qatar (Certificate) for Support and Liaison with the Education Sector. Separately, Qapco vice-chairman and general manager, Dr Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla, said: “It has been our earnest endeavour to ensure that Qatari nationals with the appropriate qualifications are recruited and developed for career employment in the company. The award has not come as a result of luck, but as a consequence of a well-planned strategy that aims at attracting national expertise and qualifications who get highly advanced training programmes, in order to be able to lead Qatar’s development.” According to Qapco Learning Development manager Nasser al-Hajri, 45 Qatari students have been granted overseas scholarships by the company,while another 35 Qatari employees are studying in internationally-recognised institutions abroad. Meanwhile, QP said yesterday that Minister al-Sada will head Qatar’s delegation to the 33rd Ministerial Meeting of the GCC Industrial Co-operation Committee in Abu Dhabi on May 18.
