H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, the Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, inaugurated the Qatar Marine Festival at the eastern seafront of Cultural Village last evening. H E Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser bin Khaled Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Marine Festival Organising Committee, ministers and diplomats attended the inaugural function. Before the opening Sheikha Mozah toured the Book Exhibition, Childhood Cultrual Center and Heritage Library. The festival attempts to showcase Qatar’s past—especially its pearl diving culture, seafaring and fishing. The 10-day event comprises outdoor events such as boats competing in a fishing expedition and a Pearl Operetta. People can visit the event with children but carrying food items and cameras are not allowed. Expositions showcasing Qatari handicraft and events highlighting Qatari folklore and art are also lined up along with other events during the 10-day festival. Yesterday’s ceremony began with an operetta titled ‘The Pearl from Al Dasha to Al Gufal’. The operetta will continue for five days at the festival with events starting at 4pm. All events will be held at the eastern seafront of the Cultural Village until April 21. However, the venues of events to be held each day of the festival are different with a map being distributed that can guide visitors to the venue of each event. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=April2010&file=Local_News2010041332721.xml
