Nobu, dubbed as the A-list crowd’s favourite Japanese restaurant and recognised for its groundbreaking modern and authentic Japanese cuisine, is expected to open here in the first half of 2010, said the Doha Four Seasons Hotel’s general manager. “The Nobu-Doha Restaurant, which will be operated by The Four Seasons Hotel, will be finished in the first half of 2010. Construction is going on at the moment and we’ve been building for two months now. It’s a pretty ambitious building from an architectural point of view and it’s quite a challenging building to build,” said Simon P. Casson, Doha Four Seasons Hotel’s general manager. Nobu is owned by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa partnered with actor Robert de Niro, producer Meir Teper, restaurateur Drew Nieporent and managing partner Richard Notar. It has been a pioneer for Japanese cuisine in New York since its opening in 1994. “World travellers are very familiar with the brand and it’s probably one of the world’s most recognised independent restaurants. We are really excited to bring that kind of brand, that kind of quality restaurant to Doha. It will be a combination of world-class dining and iconic-designed building in a waterfront location,” said Casson. The David Rockwell-designed building, which will enjoy a 360-degree view from its Marina location, will have three levels – the entrance level, the lobby and main restaurant level, and the sky bar. Nobu restaurants are located in Waikiki, San Diego, Los Angeles, Aspen, Dallas, Miami, Las Vegas, Atlantis, New York, London, Berkeley St., Mykonos, Athens, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Melbourne and Dubai. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local%5FNews&subsection=Qatar+News&month=January2009&file=Local_News2009011521030.xml
