The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, has said the Ministry will continue projects for beautifying pubic places, maintenance of parks and increasing the green cover in the country. He was speaking to reporters during the concluding ceremony of the ‘Green Qatar Clean Qatar 2009’ campaign. The new projects will be discussed by the Central Municipal Council during its weekly session next week. On the occasion, the Green Qatar Centre at the ministry announced the results of the best home gardens, school gardens and painting competitions conducted as part of the campaign by the ministry early this year. The competitions were conducted municipality-wise. The best home gardens contest, which included big, medium and small gardens, witnessed the participation of 107 houses representing Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakra, Oum Salal, Al Dhaayin, Al Khor and Al Shamal. In this category, 51 winners were selected based on norms set by the ministry. In the school gardens contest, 21 schools representing six municipalities and Qatar Youth Hostels Association participated, out of which 14 schools won.
