Awareness programme for new drivers

DOHA: The traffic department has launched a new awareness programme to educate new drivers about rules and common mistakes made by motorists, reported an Arabic daily, yesterday. The campaign through different activities will create wariness about very common mistakes being committed on road by drivers and about most important and basic traffic rules need to be obeyed while driving to avoid accidents and other type of traffic violations. Riyad Ahmed, first lieutenant at the traffic department said: “This campaign aims to spread a good traffic culture and road manners among new drivers.” “They will be educated about the risk accidents could cause and mistakes made by new drivers due to lack of knowledge on roads. Small booklets printed with guidelines, and traffic rules will be also distributed among the drivers who complete lessons at driving schools,” he said. Driving schools including the Qatar driving school, gulf driving school, Al Raya driving school and Karwa driving school will participate in the awareness campaign by the traffic department. The campaign will have theory lessons for the new drivers as well as awareness lessons for 20 minutes, with translations into different languages as well as field visits to secondary schools and driving schools. The Public Relations unit of the traffic department will work together with Ministry of Interior and driving schools in this campaign. THE PENINSULA
