The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that Al Gasar roundabout and parts of the roads leading to it will be closed, in addition to a part of Lusail Street opposite to Doha Exhibition Centre as of tomorrow night as part of the Lusail Expressway project. The Authority will open a 2km temporary dual alternative road that is parallel to the part of the Lusail Street that will be closed (opposite Doha Exhibition Centre). The new alternative road that leads to The Pearl area, mainly consists of three lanes in each direction, with a two-lane section alongside Al Gasar roundabout. It also complies with international standards for road quality, signage and lighting, making it even better than the main Lusail Street. Speed limit on the new road will be 50km per hour, while all directional and traffic management signs have been installed. Drivers heading north to Al Gasar roundabout will have to go right onto West Bay Street to reach Katara and the nearby hotels. Upon completion, Al Gasar roundabout will be replaced by a four-level interchange with a dual four-lane tunnel and a dual two-lane flyover, dramatically improving traffic flow in the area around Katara Village and the Doha Exhibition Centre. The Al Gasar roundabout is part of the Lusail Expressway development under Ashghal’s wider Expressway Programme; a multi-year nationwide road infrastructure programme that will improve the way people and places are connected across Qatar. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/236148-ashghal-opens-alternative-road-opposite-doha-exhibition-centre-.html
