Ashghal completes 40 percent of projects under Five Year Plan

Nearly 40 percent of the works under the Five Year Plan of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has been completed. 42.5 percent of the total project works under the plan are fast progressing, reported Al Sharq. However, the daily said, Ashghal is yet to float tenders for more than 25 percent of the project works envisaged under the road segment of the plan period scheduled to be completed by 2012. The five year plan, originally scheduled to be completed by 2009-2010 and re scheduled to 2012, envisages a series of projects under Roads, Buildings and Sewage segments. Of the total 28 projects in the road segment, Ashghal has already completed eleven. Seven major projects are fast progressing. Tenders have not been floated for ten projects. The construction of Suhain bin Hamad road, Ahmed bin Ali road, Airport Road, I phase of Salwa road, Um Barka road, Al Khafji road, I phase of roads that are leading to the Tower Asia, Mesaimeer road, AlWab road and Midmac road are on the final stage. The report said that Ashghal has not floated tenders for key proposed projects including F-Ring Road, G-Ring Road, Al Wakra ring road, Al Rayan road, Extension to Al Mumtaza, East Industrial Area, Lussail road, Al Markhiya Intersection and TV Intersection. Regarding the Building Segment, over 38 percent of the project works have been completed. 42.9 percent projects are fast progressing. Tenders have not been floated for 19 percent of the projects. The completed projects include Asian Games Village, construction of 34 schools and 28 kindergartens, two health centers, new mosques and parking buildings at Grand Hamad Street. Tenders have not floated for Al Khor Park, Ruwais Harbour development project, Emiri Yahad Harbour and Public Park.
