DOHA: AFC Champions League winners Al Sadd will take on German club FC Chalke 04 in a friendly on January 10, it was announced yesterday. Al Sadd, who won the 2011 AFC Champions League title on November 5, will host the match at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. The Qatari side finished third in the World Club Championship held this month in Tokyo. The match is being played to honour long-serving club player and official Muhammad Ghulam. The ticket price and related details will be issued at a later date, the club said. FC Schalke will also play a friendly against Egypt club Al Ahly at the same venue on January 6. The Royal Blues return to training on January 3 after the winter break. A day later, head coach Huub Stevens and his team will depart for a training camp in Qatar. The team will spend eight days in Qatar as part of their preparation for the second half of the German season. THE PENINSULA
