7th edition of AgriteQ ends successfully; many contracts and MoUs signed

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has concluded the activities of the 7th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition 2019 AgriteQ and the first international environmental exhibition "2019 EnviroteQ", which has witnessed over four days a great success in terms of attendance , or in terms of broad local and regional international organization and participation, diversity of agricultural, animal, fisheries and environmental offerings and other related activities, conferences and seminars.

The event also witnessed the signing of a number of contracts and memoranda of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and a group of participating parties to contribute to increasing production and effectively raising the self-sufficiency rates and achieving food security of the said products as well as carrying out joint researches in their fields and sectors. The events were also characterised by the wide participation of companies and local farms that started to work in the market, while some are preparing to launch their products during the coming period.

The exhibition was a success for Qatar. The exhibition was especially important as a strategic platform for exploring new horizons for upgrading the Qatari agricultural sector as a pillar of food security. It is a strategic priority to achieve self-sufficiency and innovative environmental solutions to meet current and emerging challenges and an opportunity to share international and local experiences.

The 7th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition witnessed the launch of the "Planting a Million Trees" project, which is part of Qatar's relentless efforts to support the international trend to confront climate change and promote environmental sustainability. This project is of great importance as it aims at optimizing the utilization of treated water in irrigation and minimizing waste of water resources, as well as enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, increasing green area and reducing emissions.

On the sidelines of the events, many important deals and new agreements were signed between businessmen, farmers and owners of companies. The Ministry of Municipality and Environment signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with a number of prominent national and international entities, as well as the launch of the website Mahaseel "Crops" and open the registration for all Qatari farmers to obtain marketing and agricultural services.

Mohammed Ali Al Khouri, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the exhibition, said in a press statement that this event marked this year as the largest as it hosted a series of qualitative events, led by the farmers' platform, which highlighted the quality and competitiveness of the Qatari agricultural product, as well as interactive and awareness activities for all age groups, including children.

He added that the exhibition has once again demonstrated its prominent role in introducing the best products and providing the local market with state-of-the-art technologies, innovative and advanced equipment that drive agricultural development, while the broad participation reflects growing international confidence in the promising opportunities and potentials available within the Qatari agricultural market.

AgriteQ2 2019 attracted the participation of Qatari farmers who presented their newest agricultural products to the public through a first farmers' platform for the first time in Qatar, forming the largest gathering of Qatari farmers.

More than 68 farms have participated in the event , reflecting the wide presence of national farms and the commitment of farmers to contribute effectively to the continuous efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency through the identification of best practices and the latest technologies used in agriculture and the exchange of experiences with various stakeholders In the agricultural sector, in order to benefit the agricultural development process in Qatar.

The Qatar International Agricultural and Environmental Conference was one of the most important events, confirming that it was a major boost to the efforts to achieve agricultural and environmental sustainability locally and globally. There have been extensive discussions on vital topics and in-depth insights on the latest indicators and best practices in agriculture and environment related sectors that will enhance the role of the agricultural and environmental sectors in Qatar's sustainable development process.

Among the key events is the "Inter-Institutional Matching Platform" to strengthen communication between companies, entrepreneurs, decision-makers and industry leaders from the public and private sectors.

The events also provided an educational platform for children and young people, and contributed to instilling values of sustainability and the consolidation of agricultural and environmental culture, both plant and animal.

AgriteQ 2019 and the first Qatar International Environmental Exhibition 2019 reflects Qatar's keen interest in the agricultural and environmental sectors under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani.

In this regard, Qatar in recent years devoted great attention to the development of the country's wealth, including agricultural wealth. It has provided the means, the reasons and the requirements to increase its productivity, in line with the great growth witnessed in all fields, especially with regard to food security as one of the main pillars that the State seeks to achieve during this period.

AgriteQ was an ideal opportunity to explore the wide range of agricultural products, machinery and technologies from leading international companies. The first environmental exhibition was a new platform for announcing and launching the initiatives of the State Ministries in the field of environmental sustainability in the sectors of energy, industry, water, transportation, sustainable urban planning and management of the municipal and hazardous waste as well as the commercial and service sectors and promising opportunities in eco-tourism.
