16 people previously accused of bribery & position exploitation sentenced to imprisonment & fines up to QR 729 million

Qatar's Public Prosecution issued a statement on 5 March 2024 regarding the 16 individuals who were previously subject to legal action based on accusations of bribery, exploitation of position, damage to public funds, violation of freedom, safety of tenders related to state and money laundering on 5 July 2023.

The individuals, out of which 4 are employees of Hamad Medical Corporation, have been imposed with varying imprisonment durations and financial fines.

The first accused employee of Hamad Medical Corporation has received a sentence of imprisonment for 15 years along with a fine of QR 729 million. The second accused received a sentence of imprisonment for 11 years along with a fine of QR 171 million. The third accused received a sentence of imprisonment for 10 years along with a fine of QR 144 million, and the fourth accused employee of Hamad Medical Corporation received a sentence of imprisonment for 14 years along with a fine of QR 313 million.

The sentences also impose isolation from public office, and non-Qatari people will be deported from the country after the imposed sentence is complete.

1 of the 10 accused who were owners of the contracting companies with Hamad Medical Corporation received imprisonment for 5 years and a fine of QR 228 million, and another was sentenced to imprisonment for 8 years and was imposed with a fine of QR 25 million.

Two of the owners of the contracting companies were sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, another two accused received a sentence of 8 years, and four others with 10, 6, 5 & 4 years imprisonment, respectively. These eight accused were imposed fines worth a minimum of QR 5 million and a maximum of QR 195 million. The expatriates from the accused will be deported once their sentence is complete.

As per the statement, two of the accused were acquitted of the allegations by the court.
