Students of Qatar School of Science and Technology win at an international event

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education Friday announced that students from the Qatar School of Science and Technology have won second and third places globally in the Global Youth Science and Technology Bowl (GYSTB2020) which was held online in Hong Kong on August 1.

Three of the participating Qatari projects also received certificates of appreciation for their project ideas and designs, after five projects from the Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys qualified for the final rounds.

The competition is a global event in which the achievements of young people are presented in the field of science and innovation. It aims at enhancing science and technology learning, providing a platform for the world's youth to develop their creativity and scientific orientations, and facilitating the exchange of scientific ideas, interests and capabilities among young scientists around the world.

93 research projects were submitted to the competition from all over the world. The competition is divided into two categories: the physics and engineering category in which 46 projects participated, and the biology and chemistry category in which 47 projects participated.

The Medicine Tracker Device for Improving Medication Adherence project, developed by students Ghanem Abdullah Al Marri and Yousef Moaz Ibrahim under the supervision of Professor Derar Mallah, won second place at the level of the participating teams in the field of physics and engineering.

The Smart School Bus project, developed by students Hamad Abdulaziz Al Hur, Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Seqatri and Abdullah Abdulrahman Mahmoud under the supervision of Professor Issa Sweidan, won the third place at the level of the participating teams in the field of physics and engineering.

The following three projects received a certificate of appreciation for the efforts exerted in designing and presenting projects at the most prestigious scientific level in accordance with the terms of the international competition:

1- The Application of Thermoelectric Generators Using "Sandwich" Method project that was developed by students Fahd Ali Al Hajri and Ahmed Khalid Al-Zaman, under the supervision of Professor Zokir Abdurakhmanov.

2- The Using Hydrogels for Agriculture and Flood Defense project that was implemented by Jassim Sultan and Jassim Mohammed Abdullah under the supervision of Professor Suleiman Mia.

3- The Portable Fridge project by students Saud Abdulrahman Al-Malik and Abdulaziz Ali Al Tamimi under the supervision of Professor Nabil Salah Al-Din Ayoub.
