Qatar Museums announces exciting line up of free activities in August for all ages

Qatar museums children events activities august 2023

Qatar Museums will continue its vibrant public programme this August by introducing a series of new free-of-charge activities across several of its entities, including the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), Fire Station: Artist in Residence, and the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.

Fire Station: Artist in Residence

Fire Station: Artist in Residence will offer a series of five-day workshops for teenagers and young adults (aged 14 – 20) each week of August, with topics spanning silkscreen printing, children’s book illustration, resin art, and analogue photography. The following workshops will take place at Fire Station’s Education Studio:

Silkscreen: The Book Sleeve Edition with Zainab Al Shibani
30 July - 3 August 2023 | 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
The workshop will begin with an introduction to silk screen printing, Arabic lettering, and illustration. Then, participants will create a design inspired by their favourite book or graphic novel to print on a book sleeve. Please note that this workshop will be conducted in English.

Children’s Book Illustration with Hassan Manasrah
6 - 10 August 2023 | 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM
The class will be introduced to children’s book illustration and learn about creating their own illustrated book with visual artist and illustrator Hassan Manasrah, who was an artist-in-residence at the Fire Station in 2018-2019. Participants are asked to bring a laptop or tablet for this programme. Please note that this workshop will be conducted in Arabic.

Resin Art with Roula Saad

13 - 17 August 2023 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
In this programme, led by artist Roula Saad, the class will learn different techniques and create their own resin art piece using moulds, adding coloured pigments, foils, and more. Please note that this workshop will be conducted in Arabic.

Capturing Moments: Exploring the Art of Film Photography with Mohammed Al Hammadi & Sultan Al Jaber

20 – 24 August 2023 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Led by a duo passionate about photography, Mohammed Al Hammadi and Sultan Al Jaber, this programme on analogue photography will focus on the beauty of film and the art of capturing moments in a single frame. Please note that this workshop will be conducted in Arabic.

National Museum of Qatar

As part of their commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, The National Museum of Qatar is offering a special guided tour which has been tailored exclusively for the visually impaired, as well as an interactive tour for families, and a skills workshop for youths and young adults.

Families Exploration Journey
19 August 2023 | 1:00 – 2:30 PM (English), 4:00 – 5:30 PM (Arabic)
Families with children aged 6 – 9 will embark on an interactive adventure through the museum galleries and family-focused exhibits. Children will actively enhance their knowledge of Qatar’s environment, heritage, and culture by using their problem-solving skills.

Let’s Discover the Museum Collection! (For the Visually Impaired)

21 and 28 August | 1:00 – 2:30 PM (English), 4:00 – 5:30 PM (Arabic)
Visitors with visual impairments are invited to explore the museum and join us on a special tour which gives them access to the collections by using interactive elements whilst and embark on a captivating journey through the museum's galleries, immersing themselves in the rich history and culture of Qatar.

Junior Workshop Facilitator

The National Museum of Qatar will offer an initiative to youths and young adults aged 13 to 19, encouraging them to actively lead and contribute to creative programmes within the National Museum of Qatar. Participants will be offered training workshops on leadership skills, audience management, workshops, and preparation. The programme is for Qatari Nationals or those born in Qatar aged between 13-19. Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of Islamic Art will host three workshops in August, catering to both families with young children, and adults, ensuring an inclusive experience for everyone.

Family Day – Geometry

12 August | 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Join MIA’s learning and outreach team for a Family Day in MIA’s auditorium in celebration of International Day of Youth. Each month we will be taking inspiration from MIA and the world around us - join us in August to discover geometry patterns in mosques to celebrate our new exhibition Mosques in Qatar: Then and Now. This is a drop-in session with no pre-booking required.

Youth Day – Library Puzzles and Games

12 August | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
To celebrate International Day of Youth, come along to MIA library to take part in a fun mixture of puzzles and games related to Islamic Art and living in a sustainable world.

Planet Kids Club - The Blue Jackal

29 August | 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
MIA invites children between 5 and 7 to enrol in this month’s kids club and take part in different activities all created under an overarching theme of protecting our planet. Storytimes dedicated to caring about our world, different arts and crafts and educational segments about museum objects all await your children. Mughal Artifacts

31 August | 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
This workshop for adults explores MIA’s Mughal collection of exquisite gems and artefacts and will focus on learning about the history of the Mughal period. Book your spot by emailing [email protected]. Please note that this workshop is delivered in Arabic.

Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum

Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum is running an active initiative designed to engage children and teenagers from 3 to 18 in an invigorating summer holiday experience. The museum is also running guided family visits, guided school tours, and story time sessions throughout August.

3-2-1 Summer Sports Fun Factory

Every week until 25 August | 10 AM to 11:30 AM & 4 PM and 5:30 PM
The ‘3-2-1 Summer Sports Fun Factory’ is currently ongoing at the Activation Zone – 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, featuring a different sports activity for each day of the week, namely Handball Sunday, Basketball Monday, Hockey Tuesday, Athletics Wednesday, Boxing Thursday, Football Friday, and Rugby Saturday.

QOSM Guided Family Visit

31 August 2023 | 10 AM – 11 PM
This guided tour will showcase the museum’s permanent collection and educate visitors about the history of early sports, the Olympics, and its journey of modernisation. The tour also features the achievements of some of your favourite athletes and the history of sports in Qatar. After the tour, children will be invited to the activation zone where they can put their athletic skills to the test.

QOSM Guided School Tours

Every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday | 9 AM – 11 AM
QOSM offers guided tours for schools and students which give a comprehensive overview of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and its permanent galleries. This tour explores a variety of topics, covering the following permanent galleries, A Global History of Sport, The Olympics, Hall of Athletes, Global Sports Nation, and A Heritage of Sport. Tours are available on select days during the academic year and advance booking is required.

Storytime: The Path towards the Island

Every Saturday | 4:00 – 4:30 PM (English), 4:30 – 5:00 PM (Arabic)
Bring your children along to this story time session at 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic Sports Museum. The Path towards the Island tells the story of Youssef and Moza who explore the Qatari desert, trying to find their way to a secret island. Youssef runs into trouble and the animals of the desert must unite to try to save him. This illustrated children's book showcases the incredible diversity of animals native to Qatar.

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art continue to host their guided tours and art workshops this August, as well as a College Night for university students.

Art Time for Kids
Every Monday for ages 6-8 | 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Every Tuesday for ages 9-11 | 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Every Wednesday for ages 12-14 | 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Children are invited to explore their artistic ability and learn different art techniques in these summer art workshops at Mathaf.

College Night

22 August | 4:00 PM -7:00 PM
Exclusive for students from all universities in Qatar, Mathaf would like to invite you to visit us and explore all the resources that we offer. University students are invited to enjoy a tour of Mathaf’s permanent collection, explore the library and participate in an artistic workshop.

Family Guided Tour

31 August | 3:30 PM – 4:30 pm
Join this guided tour for families and learn about the world-class collection of modern and contemporary art from around the Arab world, housed at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. This guided tour will showcase the museum’s permanent collection and introduce young visitors to modern art. After the tour, children will be invited to participate in a drawing workshop inspired by the pieces in the gallery. Please note that this tour is only held in Arabic.

Art Lessons with Ismael Azzam

Every Sunday and Monday | 4:00 PM -7:00 PM
Join artist Ismael Azzam at Manara Studio – Mathaf for a new season of Art Lessons at Mathaf and learn techniques in portraiture drawing using pencil, charcoal, and paint.
