The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) will host various activities in December, including workshops related to the Fashioning an Empire: Textiles from Safavid Iran exhibition, their monthly story time session, and a family day to mark Qatar National Day. In addition, MIA Library has opened its rare book room displaying highlights of Palestine’s history.
What was the style and fashion of Safavid Iran like? How did this empire cultivate power and influence? Join us for a deep dive on Safavid silks through tales of textiles and fashion. This audio-series is part of the Museum of Islamic Art exhibit, ‘Fashioning an Empire: Textiles from Safavid Iran’.
As a heartfelt tribute to the enduring essence of Palestine and its people, MIA Library opens the doors of the rare book room to present a rare collection of books displaying special highlights of Palestine’s history. In the library majlis, visitors can read books about Palestine and write notes to hang on our ‘Support Palestine’ Library-Tree. This small open display comes as a way of support to the current situation in Palestine, and as an open comfortable space for the public to glance at the history and beauty of Palestine.
Families are in invited to a drop-in session in the MIA Atrium. Participants take inspiration from Fashioning an Empire exhibition to create their own carpet from Isfahan, using geometrical shapes and colours.
In honour of Qatar National Day, MIA invites the public to join them for a Family Day in the Atrium, and create your own post cards inspired by MIA’s rich collection.
Join us monthly for different activities all created under an overarching theme of protecting our planet. Storytimes dedicated to caring about our world, different arts and crafts and educational segments about museum objects all await your children. The Public Art department at Qatar Museums will be hosting a talk around World Wide Walls – an international mural programme, a public talk discussing the inspiration behind “Shelters by Marco Bruno”, as well as an Art Talk for students at Liwan.

The Student Public Art Talk @ Liwan, unveils the artistic journeys of the Students Public Art Competitions. The winners Ibrahim El Kilani and Doaa Emam will discuss their artworks, the inspirations behind their pieces, the creative processes, and the symbolic layers, while also explaining the practical and technical challenges.

Fire Station: Artists in Residence engages the public in December with a number of new events, including a soap making workshop, panel discussion, and messy play workshop for kids.

What are the causes of creative blocks and how can you overcome them? How can you build your brand identity and make yourself unique? Join us as we explore the basics and different elements of Persian miniature painting led by artist Noor Al Kharaan. Participants will learn about construction, colour, and other details of this art and discover a variety of styles from simplistic to intricate. We will dive into the history about Persian paintings and then put into practice the preparing of the papers to tracing, inking, and finally colouring the paintings. In this workshop, kids will learn about colour mixing through observing, analysing, and identifying how colours change. Kids shall decide what colours to mix and use brushes or part of their body to paint on a large canvas.
