Activities workshops qatar museums april 2024

Qatar Museums (QM) will hold a variety of engaging activities for the public this April, including workshops, guided tours, art lessons, storytelling sessions, and more.

Following closure on the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, all Qatar Museums venues will return to normal opening hours. These are:

  • First Day of Eid al-Fitr Closed
  • Saturday to Thursday 9 AM – 7 PM
  • Friday 1.30 PM – 7 PM

National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ)

The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is running various programmes throughout April, including guided tours, an insect workshop, and a family tour in celebration of Eid Al Fitr.

  • Eid Al Fitr Celebration in Qatar – Family tour
  • 15-22 April | 1:00 – 2:30 PM (English) and 4:00 – 5:30 PM (Arabic)

Families will embark on a special journey of Eid Al Fitr preparations and celebrations in Qatar. They will discover how Qatar comes to life through related social practices, customs, festivities, songs, traditional clothing, and jewellery. To book a spot, email [email protected].

Journey Around Qatar Guided Tour

  • Weekly - Sunday to Wednesday | Between 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (90minutes) (KG & School Students)
  • Weekly - Saturday to Wednesday | Between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (90minutes) (University Students & Educational Institutes)

NMoQ have introduced this tour to their regular programming, inviting university students & Educational Institutes as well as school students from KG and Grades 1 to 12 to experience the museum and learn about Qatar’s history, heritage, and culture. The tour is available in Arabic, English, French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and German. Book by contacting [email protected].

Discovery Programs: Insect Workshop

  • Sunday – Tuesday | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Join NMoQ for a hands-on workshop where young explorers can venture outdoors, gather nature's treasures like leaves, wood, and rocks, and transform them into unique bugs. Spark creativity, connect with nature, and let imaginations soar as children craft their own insect friends using the beauty of the great outdoors. Schools may book by contacting [email protected].

Otto The Boy Who Loved Cars – Storytelling Session

  • 20 April | 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Otto's passion for cars knows no bounds. He spends his days playing with cars and even dreams about them. Join NMoQ in this session to discover what unfolds in this captivating story. Book a place by emailing [email protected].

Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) will host various activities in April, including their monthly family day and Majilis Book Club, and Planet Kids Club.

Family Day – Animals

  • 23 April | 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join a monthly Family Day, taking place at the MIA Atrium. Every month, we will be taking inspiration from MIA’s exciting collection.

Majlis Book Club

  • 24 April 2024 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Discover the MIA Library book collection every month at the Majlis Book Club. Join this month for a reading of the English translation of the award-winning 2013 book Frankenstein in Baghdad by Iraqi novelist Ahmed Saadawi. The book puts a modern-day wartime spin on Mary Shelley’s original 1818 novel Frankenstein, highlighting the surreal horrors of life in US-occupied Baghdad.

Planet Kids Club

  • 25 April | 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Join a monthly for different activities all created under an overarching theme of protecting the planet. Storytimes dedicated to caring about the world, different arts and crafts and educational segments about museum objects all await your children. The workshop is taught in English and Arabic and is limited to 30 spaces. For booking and enquiries, email [email protected].

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will run their regular art lessons with Ismail Azzam as well as a meditation class for ladies.

Rhythm & Hues

  • 21 April | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

This special edition, ladies-only version of the Rhythm & Hues event aims to educate and empower women with music, painting surfaces and conversation. We will learn about female Abstract Expressionist artists and painters who used music as inspiration in their work. The session will begin with a mindfulness meditation, followed by painting exercises and a fun, musically-led painting session. Dress-code: ready to paint!

Art Lessons with Ismail Azzam

  • Every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday| 4:00 PM -7:00 PM

Join artist and curator Ismail Azzam for an art lesson at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. Participants will learn different portraiture techniques using various mediums, including pencil, charcoal, and paint. The workshop aims to provide a stimulating atmosphere for developing artistic talent, sharing experiences, and engaging in artistic discussion. Please also note: These lessons are designed for people with basic to intermediate sketching and drawing skills. Each participant must bring their own sketchbook – these will not be provided by the organiser.

Participants may also be asked to sit in as a model to have their portraits drawn.
