Hamad: I started photography in 2017 and I was inspired by the birdlife. The different shapes and colours made me love monitoring and photographing them. I was excited to observe new birds to know their behaviour and reflect on the reasons for migration. I spent a long time researching and studying birds in the Qatari environment and the wildlife of Qatar in general.

ILQ: How do you approach capturing the essence of wildlife in a way that is both respectful to the animals and visually compelling for your audience?

Hamad: I enjoy observing birds before taking their photographs. This helps me select the perfect moment to capture the shot and choose the appropriate hiding spot to approach them without disturbing their natural behaviour.

ILQ: How do you modify your photography techniques to capture the range of habitats and species found in the region?

Hamad: As someone with extensive experience in wildlife photography, I have gained a great deal of knowledge about the annual migration patterns of birds, including when and where they can be found. To prepare for their arrival, I record all relevant data. I carefully select the most suitable locations, which can range from the northern to southern regions of Qatar.

ILQ: The role of patience in wildlife photography is crucial. Can you share an experience where patience was vital in getting a remarkable shot?

Hamad: Wildlife photography requires patience, as it can take days or months to capture unexpected or new behaviour. During one of my wildlife photography trips, I was waiting to observe a new bird so that I could document and photograph it. After a long wait, a fox suddenly appeared from a burrow near me, followed by its young. I managed to capture some beautiful and decisive moments of the fox and its young one through my camera lens. It was truly a memorable experience.

ILQ: What challenges do you face as a wildlife and bird photographer in Qatar, considering the unique environment and biodiversity of the region?

Hamad: There are several challenges related to bird conservation in Qatar. One of the main issues is the lack of bird habitats, making it difficult for them to thrive. Overhunting is also a problem, and it needs to be more organized while raising the level of environmental awareness and culture.

Additionally, there's a need for a better understanding of the biological and biotic diversity in Qatar's environment. It is also important to have knowledge about bird migration times and how to preserve them.

ILQ: What camera gear and accessories do you find essential for your work, and how do they contribute to your success as a photographer?

Hamad: I always make sure to use proper equipment when photographing birds, such as zoom lenses and a tripod to reduce camera shake. Although it can be costly, it is extremely beneficial in capturing the beauty of birds and their surroundings.

ILQ: Can you share a memorable experience or encounter during a photo shoot that left a lasting impression on you as a wildlife and bird photographer in Qatar?

Hamad: I have had many experiences with birds that have left a lasting impression on me. I would like to point out that some migratory birds developed a friendship and trust with me over time, to the point where they consider me their friend.

One such bird is Winky, who returns from migration every year and waits for me in my car. This has created a beautiful bond between me and the birds.

ILQ: How do you use your work to raise awareness about the importance of preserving Qatar's natural habitats and wildlife?

Hamad: I give awareness lectures in schools and hold cultural events and workshops to preserve birds and the environment. These activities have greatly impacted followers and the public, raising their awareness levels.

ILQ: What are the best places to photograph wildlife in Qatar?

Hamad: The Arkiyah Farm is the best place for wildlife photography as it is a popular destination for birds and animals like the Arabian Red Fox, Wild Hedgehog, and Desert Jerboa.

ILQ: How does your family react to your photography?

Hamad: My family always stands by me and continues to encourage me by attending lectures and providing me with full support.

ILQ: What's your message for aspiring wildlife photographers from Qatar?
