A Doha criminal court has sentenced a GCC citizen to 10 years in jail for narcotics possession and peddling, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The court has also imposed a fine of QR200,000 on the man.

A source of the Ministry of Interior's Drug Prevention Department had given information that the man was seen consuming hashish and peddling it. He also offered to sell some amount of hashish for QR4,000 to the source.

A police investigation verified the accuracy of the information and necessary legal approvals were obtained to lay a trap for the accused and catch him.

Accordingly, the source agreed to buy the hashish from the man in a deserted area and give him the money. The movements of both men were monitored by a police team.

After the delivery, the police arrested the suspect and searched him and his vehicle. They found the money given to him by the source as well as some 555gm of hashish.

Later, medical tests proved that the man had consumed the drug. He admitted to the offence during the investigation and the court established his guilt accordingly.
